Momochi (Sawara Ward)
The Momochi area offers a lovely boardwalk along the seashore. Many of Fukuoka's great landmarks are located here, such as Fukuoka Dome, home of professional baseball team Fukuoka Daiei Hawks, and the site of an a frequent concert and event center, also, Fukuoka Tower, Japan's most important seaside tower. A trip up the 234 m (768 ft) Tower offers two splendid panoramic views of Fukuoka City, one during the day and one at night. The Hawks Town complex at the base of Fukuoka Dome features a movie theater, video arcade, shopping, and a wide variety of restaurants, providing a full day of entertainment.
Momochi also offers cultural facilities, such as Fukuoka Prefecture's largest general library and a fantastic museum. The Fukuoka City Museum is a state-of-the-art facility with the largest display area in western Japan, offering a wealth of knowledge about Fukuoka's history and people.

Nakasu (Hakata Ward)
Western Japan's biggest entertainment district. At night, it becomes a colorful maze of neon lights, with lamps from yatai (food stalls) along the Naka River providing a charming row of lights. Enjoy the adult nightlife, take a walk by the river, or enjoy a trip on a pleasure boat.

Yatai
Yatai (food stalls) are one of Fukuoka's most famous attractions. As the sun begins to fall, yatai workers bring wheeled stalls to their designated locations, and a long row of yatai slowly forms. Fukuoka's most famous yatai dish is ramen noodles, but yatai now offer a rich variety of foods, including tempura and yakitori (roast chicken). Yatai are most concentrated in the Tenjin, Nagahama and Nakasu areas.
Marinoa City (Nishi Ward)
A shopping and entertainment complex about 30 minutes by car from Tenjin. With outlet stores by many notable brands, it's a great place to find cheap clothes, shoes and accessories at reasonable prices. Easily recognized by its two huge Ferris wheels, the larger of which is the second-biggest in the world. Also enjoy one of the many restaurants with a scenic ocean view.

Bayside Place Hakata Futo (Hakata Ward)
A facility that opens up on the Hakata Bay waterfront. With plenty of yatai (food stalls) and restaurants, there's no shortage of fantastic food to eat, and Hakata Ichiban Furo offers a unique chance to sample the waters of hot springs from all over Japan. With action until the late hours of the night, Bayside Place has become a popular dating spot for Fukuoka's young people.

Hakata Riverain (Hakata Ward)
A cultural multiplex the likes of which you've never seen before! Fukuoka Art Museum (Chuo Ward), Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (Hakata Ward)
The Fukuoka Art Museum located deep inside verdant Ohori Park displays 20th-Century modern art as well as works by Fukuoka art masters. The Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (attached to Hakata Riverain) specializes in Asian modern art, making it a rarity in the world.

Shofukuji Temple (Hakata Ward), Tochoji Temple (Hakata Ward), Kushida Shrine (Hakata Ward), Hakozaki Shrine (Higashi Ward)
A pleasant walk from Hakata Station will lead you to several traditional Japanese shrines and temples, including Shofukuji Temple and Tochoji Temple. Also within reach is Kushida Shrine, which serves as the base for Fukuoka's famous Hakata Gion Festival in July. Hakozaki Shrine is liveliest in January and September, when the Tamaseseri and Hojoya festivals are being held.

Yanagibashi Coop Market
Known as "Hakata's Kitchen," the Yanagibashi Coop Market is where Fukuoka's fish are bought and sold. With around 60 shops in a tight space, it may seem a little claustrophobic at first, but you'll soon be taken in by the energy of its participants. The storefronts display freshly caught fish, rare delicacies, and plenty of Hakata's famous staple, mentaiko (a kind of spiced-up caviar). Closed on Sundays and holidays.
